Process Design for Operability and Production – The goal is to design or optimize a process to ensure that the equipment is easy to start-up, operate, and maintain. This involves ensuring that the right equipment is in place and sized correctly. The production oil, gas, and water must meet the required specifications at the end of the process train.
Process Design for Safety – Safety is of upmost important at any production facility. Equipment, process design, and operations procedures must be deemed safe for the operators, the surrounding public, and the environment. Many API codes exist to aid process designers to ensure that equipment and processes are designed safely. There is no substitute for experience in this field. Communication between engineering and operations is crucial to ensuring an unsafe practice or design is not implemented.
